Self Improvement
Your “SELF” or personality, starts to develop from the time you were conceived in your mothers’ womb. The formation continues in the environment where you were born and grew up. If you were fed with a negative diet on a regular basis, then as the saying goes, you become what you eat. It does not matter if it is physical food or mental food.
The worst part is to be treated badly by parents and significant others, especially in the first five year of personality development. Those are the formative years in a persons’ life. Self-esteem and self confidence go hand in glove. A good healthy self esteem will complement high self confidence.
Self-esteem is the evaluation and affective dimension of how you conceive yourself. Self esteem is also referred to as your self-worth or self-image. So a mother will see herself as more than just a mother, but rather a good mother. A teacher may perceive he is not merely a maths teacher but a very good one. On the other side of the coin, the student may see herself as a poor reader and feel ashamed about it.
You have little or no control over what is dished out to you during your developmental stages. I grew up with a poor self-concept, feeling that I could not achieve much because of the limitations I feel inside and see around me.
The good news is, reaching a certain stage of accountability in our development, the responsibility shift from others unto us. We now become in charge of the quality of life we live. We are now master of our own destiny under God. The choices we make either build our self-esteem or further erode or self confidence.
We have to now go search, seek and find solutions, answers and remedy for the hurt, the scars, the wounds that we have experienced over the years. Ignorance is no excuse to live in scarce island. There is no shortage of knowledge, no shortage of resources. We simple need to go out and change the direction if our life is unhappy.
Once we become responsible for our actions, our self-esteem is fashioned by us, our life becomes what we make it. We become what we think about, and if you think you can or you can’t you are right.
Successful people have a desire to be different from the crowd, because you are lost in the crowd. You have to stand out, stand tall above the masses by climbing and reaching for the stars. You have to read inspirational success stories, listen to personal development tapes, watch motivational DVDs and educate, inform and inspire yourself.
As you cultivate and water your intellect with positive things, your self-confidence will shoot upward. Your confidence is crucial to your success. Marcus Garvey said “Without confidence in self, your are twice defeated in the race of life. But with confidence, you have won even before you started”. Confidence, faith and belief in your God given ability to win, is inside of us waiting to be released.
Self-esteem, self-confidence, self-growth are all qualities that we have and can use to take us to greatness in life that we have never even imagined before.
